Hair Extension Aftercare Tips – Keep Your Extensions Looking Their Best

Using the correct aftercare is vital for the lifespan of your hair extensions. We can’t stress enough how important it is for you to use our FierceFixx product range on your extensions as well as your natural hair. Our products are specifically designed to protect the quality and longevity of our hair extensions. Other products outside of our range may have a damaging effect on the hair, so it’s best to be safe and choose the best hair extension aftercare products. It is very important that you practice a good hair extension aftercare routine.

We do not advise any colouring, tinting, or perming on your hair extensions as these types of products contain elements that can damage both your extensions and your natural hair. It just takes one treatment like this to potentially ruin the hair and bonds, so please avoid it at all costs. This again highlights the importance of a good hair extension aftercare routine!

Application

Your hair should be squeaky clean with our recommended shampoo, with no conditioner applied to the roots, and completely product-free before installing the hair extensions. Keep your hair dry and avoid washing for 48 hours after application.

Washing Routine

We recommend washing your hair extensions a maximum of twice a week, but ideally, we would want you to be washing your hair on day 4 or 5. If you feel like you need to wash the top more often, then use dry shampoo on the root of your natural hair; it will work wonders for prolonging hair wash day. Massage shampoo into your scalp area, then let the water and shampoo run through your hair extensions when rinsing—this will cleanse them. Do not rub your hair extensions together with shampoo, as this can cause matting. Repeat the shampoo step again so you’ve shampooed twice, then follow up with plenty of conditioner from mid-length to ends and brush softly with a wet brush. Take your time when conditioning to ensure it’s being practiced correctly and has untangled all the hair. Rinse thoroughly. All extensions need nourishment, so please ensure you have products to apply before blow drying. We recommend our FierceFixx Miracle Spray, Protein Spray, & Gloss Serum for the very best protection and nourishment, as the oils from your scalp won’t reach past the bonds or weft track, so you will need to apply products to achieve this.

Only Use Recommended Products

We strongly recommend our sodium chloride-free shampoo & conditioner for our hair extensions. Before blow-drying, we would recommend Miracle Spray, Protein Spray, Shake and Protect, Gloss Serum, & Blow Dry Spray. These are all suitable for use on your hair extensions, although you wouldn’t have to use them all together. For after styling, we recommend our Shine Spray & Fixing Spray with Argan Oil.

Brushing

We recommend you use a paddle brush or Tangle Teezer for brushing. Always hold the section of hair you are brushing with one hand at the top of the hair extensions while brushing gently from the bottom up with your brush in the other hand. You must brush your hair every morning and every night to prevent matting. Also, take your time and brush between wefts and bonds gently to avoid your natural hair in between matting.

Maintenance

With good aftercare, maintenance appointments should be booked every 6-10 weeks. Your extensionist will be able to assess how the hair extension aftercare is going and keep you on the right track.

Travelling

If you're jetting off on holiday, remember the impact of chlorine and hard water on hair extensions. Take the utmost care to prevent any damage. Using a barrier or UV protection spray can help avoid discolouration and keep the extensions from drying out in the sun. Remember to keep the extensions away from pool and sea water. Additionally, be cautious with sun cream as it can cause hair extensions to turn peach or pink. We want everyone to enjoy the best and longest-lasting hair extensions, but it's essential for the wearer to maintain proper aftercare.

Top Tips

Always blow-dry your hair extensions, especially at the root. Leaving your hair wet to air dry can soften bonds and cause beads to slide.
Never use excessive heat on your hair extensions. Please make sure you are using plenty of heat protector with a low/medium heat on the hairdryer or styler.
Always wear a low pony or a pleat to bed.
Avoid chlorinated water, as this can change the colours in your hair extensions. Fake tan can also stain the hair.
